Description
The Global Engagement Associate Advisor is responsible for coordinating and advising students on Go Global programs. This role involves managing student events, supporting inbound and outbound student mobility, and advising on program processes. The Associate Advisor works closely with UBC faculty, international partners, and student services to enhance the experience for students engaging in international programs.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
- Review and refine processes to improve service quality and system efficiency.
- Develop and deliver programs for visiting exchange and research students at UBC.
- Manage and coordinate recruitment and promotional events to engage students in international learning programs.
- Support ongoing development of UBC’s Go Global student information systems.
Student Advising
- Facilitate individual and group advising sessions, supporting both incoming exchange students and UBC students preparing for international programs.
- Refer students to relevant on-campus resources as needed.
- Assist students in setting and aligning international learning experiences with academic and career goals.
- Guide students through application processes, tool usage, and issue resolution with UBC and partner institution systems.
- Provide students with detailed information on program opportunities, housing, and admission requirements.
- Help students select courses and manage the transfer credit process for partner universities.
- Offer pre-departure, in-experience, and post-experience educational programs.
- Coach students on articulating their international experience to employers.
Skills:
- Strong communication skills, including listening, verbal, and written abilities.
- Organizational and time management abilities to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with sound decision-making abilities.
- Cross-cultural sensitivity and experience working with diverse student populations, including equity-deserving groups.
- Technological proficiency, including word processing, report design, and internet-based tools.
- Teamwork skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in student advising or services in higher education.
- Previous international experience or academic participation in an international learning program.
Other Requirements
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within UBC’s international learning programs.
