Meet G1. A humanoid Robot from Unitree

Today we’ll talk about a mass-production version of Unitree Robotics' G1 humanoid robot that has been officially developed in August 2024. It offers functions that go beyond what is possible for current humanoid robots. It does spins, squats, and even different stunts while keeping itself perfectly balanced.

It can manage daily duties like going up and down stairs and just sways when someone tries to topple it. It can navigate uneven terrain. The G1 has a range of movable joint motors that make it more flexible than most humans.

Impressive capabilities of the G1

Since Unitree first unveiled the G1 in July 2024, the humanoid has had some improvements. It now has a more sophisticated look and a more robust design, but maybe the most intriguing upgrade is its ability to learn from and mimic human behavior. This learning potential is powered by the company's UnifoLM (Unitree Robot Unified Large Model). It allows the G1 to make actions like hammering, cooking, cracking nuts, and even soldering wires.

With the correct training, this robot's AI learning skills might ultimately assist with daily duties like food prep, even though it won't cover all of your kitchen tasks. What it can do with its three-fingered hands is to open a bottle or turn food in a skillet.

Practical Purposes

The G1 features remarkable degrees of freedom and a maximum joint torque of 120 newton-meters. It has 360-degree vision because of integrated 3D LIDAR and depth sensors. It detects obstacles and maneuvers through them. The G1, which is 77 pounds in weight and is 4.3 feet tall, is lightweight and portable.

The bot is more than simply a physical force; it has a speaker and microphone that can cancel out noise and echo. The C1 can interact with people, which makes it a good option for customer service purposes.

Pricing

The starting price is $16,000. To give you an example, the Spot quadruped robot from Boston Dynamics costs $74,500. The G1's adaptability, capacity for learning, and affordable pricing make it a remarkable addition to the field of consumer-ready humanoid robots.

Summary

The G1 stands out because of its dual potential as a research platform and personal assistant, even if Unitree hasn't disclosed a particular release date yet. The bot has an intriguing look into a future in which machines may help us with many daily activities.
