About Me

I dreamed of being a chef from the early age of 5 years old and was working in restaurants by the age of 15 as a dishwasher. Within 3 months I was thrown in the fire working beside the chef on the vegetable and starch station. Finishing school with a culinary scholarship I went straight to VCC culinary arts program while continuing to work. From there I was fortunate enough to land a position with Provence foods and spent the next 12 years learning Southern French cuisine. A passion for Caribbean food seeded by my grandmother lead me to the Reef restaurant and later to open Calabash bistro. With 2 floors calabash is a full service restaurant, lounge and music venue showcasing Caribbean food, Vancouver’s musical and visual artist in its rum lounge. Calabash has won many awards and distinctions including Georgia straight golden plates for best Caribbean, golden owl awards for best sub-culture venue and more. We have also been invited to compete in various competitions such as ‘this sandwich that beer’, and Gastown BBQ and chilli festivals in which we have placed first. The Vancouver Wellness show has invited us for the past 4 years to appear on their celebrity cooking stage and we have appeared on various tv and news outlets such as CTV and featured In ‘you gotta eat here’ on the food network. With 25 years in the industry I’m confident in my ability to bring value to any team or company looking for a creative motivated chef.
