Description
We're looking to fill an Experienced Baker Position (3 days a week, approx 24 hours a week).
Nelson the Seagull is a Sourdough Bakery + Cafe. We bake sourdough everyday for retail and wholesale customers. Our cafe's food menu is based around our sourdough bread and we pride ourselves on great bread, coffee and food! Our unique 100+ year old space is located in historic Gastown, Vancouver. Our ideal candidate has previous high production bread/sourdough and pastry baking skills as well as customer service skills. You'll be working in an open kitchen format, customers love to watch the sourdough being made and you can expect to have some customer interactions here and there.
You must be able to keep your cool while busy, show attention to detail, work quickly and keep an organized work environment. We have a close knit, friendly and happy team so a positive, helpful attitude is one of the biggest assets you can bring as an applicant!
Your duties will include:
- Making and baking beautiful and delicious sourdough bread, croissants and cookies
- Working quickly with production goals to meet throughout the day
- Keeping track of our wholesale orders and making sure orders are being fulfilled accurately
- Keeping your working environment and the production space clean
- Clearly communicating with the rest of the team when needed
Job Requirements:
- Food Safe Level 1
- Previous sourdough production bakery experience
- Previous croissant production experience
- Must be able to lift 20kg bag of flour
- Most shifts you'll be expected to shape up to 200 loaves of sourdough (with a coworker)
- Ability to follow recipes and instructions as well as being able to receive feedback and implement changes
- You'll be asked to test new recipes at times and help ownership in creating special pastries, cakes, cookies
- It must be in your nature to be kind to the people around you, whether that be coworkers or customers

Good to Know:
- Morning shifts start at 5am and finish at 1pm
- Afternoon shifts start at 7:30am and finish at 4pm
- Our opening hours are 8am-4pm, 7 days a week
- We ask any potential new team members to come in for a paid trial shift, this will allow you decide if you think we're a good fit and allows our team to decide if we think you're a good fit too.
- Easy skytrain (Waterfront or Chinatown Station - Canada Line) and bus routes to get to and from work.
