We typically hire 10-15 students within mechanical, mechatronic, integrated, manufacturing, and engineering physics disciplines, per term for our mechanical-based roles. We place students within our various engineering departments: Design Engineering, Test Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Machining Engineering. The projects vary and will depend on the specific needs of the co-op supervisors in those teams. Based on the student’s experience and what we learn in the interview, we will select or recommend students into the department that we feel is the best fit of their skills.

Here is what our previous students have told us as to why they liked their co-op terms:

• Lots of hands-on opportunities: build prototypes or equipment; test products and components; analyze product performance; disassemble, inspect, and analyze tested components; design and optimize assembly processes and equipment; analyze machining data and develop mechanical and software tools to optimize production
• Opportunity to learn machining skills from our veteran tool & die machinist in the prototype shop and machine your own components
• Wide variety of tasks – usually 2-3 projects on the go at a time
• Great supervision and mentorship but also get to work independently
• Supportive engineering and technical staff throughout the facility
• Great comradery among the co-op students’ cohorts, as well as, within the engineers
• Often opportunities to do some of the following: design components or equipment with CREO; work with hydraulic and pneumatic systems; use high precision measurement equipment; program PLCs; analyze product performance using Labview/NI-DAQ control systems or our data acquisition equipment
• Experience in mechanical/electrical/software blend for both product design, and manufacturing & machining equipment designing along with its processes
• Exposure to both worlds of product development and manufacturing processes since we do it all in one facility!

• Co-op wages determined based on previous work term experiences

Main responsibilities:

• Perform mechanical design including solid modeling, prototype assembly and testing, tolerance analysis, and engineering analysis
• Research and design concept solutions
• Analyze functional performance for components, products and processes and help identify improvements

Requirements:

Qualifications and experience:

• Must be enrolled in an Engineering program at an accredited university
• General proficiency with MS Office programs including: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, and Teams.

Behavioral requirements:

• Solid problem solving and decision-making abilities
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Well-developed organizational skills with the ability to manage a variety of tasks
