SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Manager, Retail Sales, this role is responsible for selling products and for providing the highest level of customer service support at the Vancouver Aquarium retail locations. The Retail Sales Associates’ main focus is to generate sales by assisting customers on the sales floor, suggest products that meet the customers’ needs, and process sales transactions through the POS. Retail Sales Associates will also maintain cleanliness and professional presentation of the sales floor.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Positively represents the Vancouver Aquarium through great service by:

• Politely greeting and assisting customers with merchandise information, location, recommendations;
• Accurately performing sales transactions for cash, debit, and credit card at point of sale registers;
• Frequently organizes, cleans and maintains Gift Shop presentation and displays;
• Confidently and enthusiastically provides general information to customers about the Aquarium, Stanley Park and the city.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

• Minimum of 1-year high volume retail sales experience selling products;
• 2 years Customer Service Role experience or equivalent.

Skills

• Strong customer service skills;
• Knowledgeable, friendly, and approachable;
• Excellent accuracy and attention to detail;
• Good aptitude for numbers;
• Ability to work well in a team in fast-paced, high stress environment;
• Ability to “think on your feet” with strong decision making and problem solving skills;
• Diplomatic and calm when working with the general public.

Working Conditions

• Job requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time;
• Job requires the ability to bend, lift light objects and occasionally use low ladders;
• Job constantly involves listening and reacting to requests for information;
• Must be available to work on Sundays;
• Flexibility and availability in schedule are required during the week, including weekends and holidays (occasional overtime during the high season).

Please note that the successful candidates must be available to work on Saturdays, Sundays and statutory holidays.

HOURLY WAGE: $19 per hour
