An Engineer at Timbre games will focus on creative, innovative and technically sound work. Our engineering team is fully integrated with all areas of game development and collaborates both technically and creatively. Our studio focuses on Unreal Engine 5, pushing everything we do towards technical excellence. We are lifelong learners, leaning on both internal expertise and external inspiration to continue our path of growth and development. We have a keen eye for best practices and elegant code, and ensure knowledge sharing, and mentoring are a priority.

As a Senior Software Engineer - AI, you craft algorithms to breathe life into virtual worlds, designing behaviors for enemy units that challenge players with dynamic tactics and realistic responses. Your work not only shapes thrilling gameplay experiences but also elevates the project by fostering immersive narratives and unforgettable encounters.

As a Senior Software Engineer - AI at Timbre, you will:

• • Collaborate with the game team to to conceptualize, prototype, and implement core AI gameplay features, components, systems and tools
  • Implement intelligent and dynamic AI systems that deliver thrilling and engaging gameplay experiences
  • Write beautiful and well documented C++ code that conforms to coding standards
  • Optimize algorithms and systems for efficiency, scalability, and real-time performance
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration across multiple disciplines within the studio, proactively soliciting and integrating feedback to refine AI behaviors and mechanics
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and sprint planning sessions to ensure project success
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning within the team

What you bring:

• • A thorough understanding of Unreal’s AI systems, working with Behavior Trees, Blackboards and State Machines to develop a range of behaviors
  • Experience developing AI behaviors on a shipped AAA title, or, demonstrable experience with AI in Unreal Engine
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex AI projects, and collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams to bring ideas from concept to implementation
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for pushing the boundaries of what's possible in gaming

$84,000 - $180,000 a year

The compensation range reflects the minimum and maximum base annual salaries specific to candidates residing in Vancouver, BC. As Timbre hires candidates across Canada, additional salary factors will be considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, relevant training or education, and location.

Please note that for this role, the displayed salary range may encompass different levels within our organization.
