The Test Development Engineer (TDE) is a member of Creation's Test Development Services (TDS) team, responsible for providing comprehensive, cost-effective test solutions to be deployed in an Electronics Manufacturing environment. The TDE will apply their in-depth practical knowledge of hardware and software development phases, standards and practices to deliver on-time and on-budget test sytems. The TDESr will leverage best practices along with the latest equipment and instrumentation available, focusing on design and documentation excellence. Our customers will see you as an extension to their Test Engineering team, as you propose efficient test strategy and design solutions to reduce test cost and improve the quality of test. This position reports directly to the Test Development Director.

DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES include, but not limited to:

• Perform Design for Testability (DFT) analysis and develop production test strategies for customer assemblies
• Develop detailed test specifications based on product technical design information (schematics, PCB layout, functional deion, test coverage requirements etc.)
• Develop automated test system design concepts and propose hardware/software solutions for testing Printed Circuit Boards and fully assembled products
• Assist with estimating development tasks, hours, budgets, and timelines for test development projects
• Design and develop test fixtures and associated test software
• Assemble and wire of automated test systems
• Troubleshoot and debug test system hardware and software
• Create detailed revision-controlled documentation for hardware and software including block diagrams, schematics, in-code comments, flow charts and test procedures
• Verify and validate test systems to confirm the required level of functionality, performance and test coverage
• Provide training and support to the target users and supporting teams
• Communicate with customers, suppliers and technical support teams to resolve test issues
• Provide project task supervision and mentoring to less experienced team members
• Assist with development and documentation of team processes
• Assist with performance of continuous improvement projects for the team

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering or equivalent
• 4-7 years experience in a test design and development or related role
• Proven experience developing automated test systems preferably in a manufacturing test environment

SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Advanced knowledge of analog, digital and mixed signal circuit design and practice
• Knowledge of all areas of production test and normal production test flow
• Able to design, prototype and document test fixtures and systems
• Able to understand and create electrical schematic diagrams
• Advanced knowledge of test instrumentation platforms such as PXI and LXI
• Proficient in the use of standard test equipment such as Oscilloscopes & Function Generators
• Skilled at developing software using NI LabVIEW
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Ability to sort, filter, and analyze data in Excel
• Ability to gather technical data, compile information, and provide recommendations
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrate initiative, independent judgment and out-of-the-box thinking
• Excellent communicator in both spoken and written English
• Above average communication skills (written and verbal).
• Organized and self-motivated with a strong ability to multi-task
• Comfortable presenting to and meeting customers in person
• Able to manage several projects at once and prioritize one’s workload
• Strong learning mindset
• Some travel may be required

BENEFICIAL SKILLS:

• Advanced knowledge RF test design and equipment such as Spectrum Analyzers & Power Meters
• Ability to develop test software in Python, MS Visual Studio .NET (C++, C#, VB)
• Development experience using NI TestStand
• Embedded software and FPGA programming capability
• Knowledge and experience in Design for Test (DFT) techniques
• Experience using Aster TestWay® or Siemens Test Expert®
• Design experience using In-circuit Test, Boundary Scan or Flying Probe
• Ability to design PCB schematics and PCB layout using CAD software
• Working knowledge of Eagle® or Fusion360® schematic capture and PCB layout software
• Advanced aptitude for mechanical and electro-mechanical concepts
• Project Management experience

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Physical Demands

• As expected within a typical office type environment however may on occasion spend an extended amount of time standing or walking in a production environment
• The incumbent must possess enough strength to safely maneuver around equipment or materials, and lift 25lbs without injury to themselves or others
• Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less). Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors)
• Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships)

Mental Demands

• Emotionally capable of professionally handling high-pressure situations in a fast paced, highly demanding industry

Working Conditions

• Equal mix of office and production environment.
• You will be required to wear safety clothing and gears when working in safety sensitive environments

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the anticipated starting pay for new hires for this position is between $95,000-$120,000 CAD in our Canadian location; a shift differential may also be provided depending on the work hours. Full-time employees are also eligible for performance-based bonuses and benefits. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as a final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience, education, location, and shift.
