About The Role

The Placement Coordinator oversees the student teacher placement process within the Pre-Service Professional Studies program in the Faculty of Education, in collaboration with academic and administrative leadership. Serving as a primary liaison between the university and school district personnel, this role is responsible for coordinating the recruitment of experienced teachers to mentor student teachers and securing student teaching placements that meet program requirements and Ministry of Education and Child Care’s Teacher Regulation Branch (TRB) regulations.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills, qualities or core competencies to be successful in the role:
 

  • Demonstrates a commitment to excellence at work, including attention to detail and accuracy, timely completion of tasks, and a focus on continuous improvement by upholding and promoting the values, mission and vision of the Faculty and the institution.
  • Acts as representative for the Faculty and the institution by presenting a professional and positive manner in all interactions with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Maintains open and effective communication and proactively seeks feedback and input to improve performance.
  • Contributes to a culture of continuous learning by seeking out opportunities to improve skills and knowledge.
     

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Education a relevant field, with a BC Teaching Certificate and five years of school administrative or teaching experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
 

  • Excellent knowledge of Ministry of Education and Child Care, Teacher Regulation Branch certification policies.
  • Excellent knowledge of the BC K – 12 school system.
  • Excellent knowledge of student mentoring best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (both oral and written) skills.
  • Excellent networking and relationship development skills.
  • Excellent organizational, research, problem solving, diplomacy, and conflict management skills.
  • Intermediate team leadership, supervisory, mentorship, and personnel management skills.
